Amylin and amylin receptor agonists

Amylin and amylin receptor agonists groups 5 indexed compounds. Also written as amylin mimetics, amylin agonists, IAPP analogues.

Definition

This class groups the pancreatic hormone amylin, also called islet amyloid polypeptide, and the synthetic analogues modelled on it. A 2011 Physiological Reviews article covers islet amyloid polypeptide, islet amyloid and diabetes mellitus, a 1999 Molecular Pharmacology paper reports that multiple amylin receptors arise from receptor activity-modifying protein interaction with the calcitonin receptor gene product, and a 2021 Journal of Medicinal Chemistry paper reports the development of cagrilintide as a long-acting amylin analogue.

Class-level mechanism as reported

The shared mechanism is agonism at amylin receptors, which the retrieved records describe as complexes of the calcitonin receptor with receptor activity-modifying proteins. A 2025 EBioMedicine paper reports that cagrilintide lowers bodyweight through brain amylin receptors 1 and 3 in its model, a 2001 Current Pharmaceutical Design paper frames pramlintide as amylin replacement, and a 2025 Lancet paper describes eloralintide as a selective amylin receptor agonist.
